Camel's Hump in Vermont on 6/28
went out of the box, today....my first 4,000 fter in Vermont...after working in the morning, headed up for a 1:00 start...Camhump is about 65 miles from home, for me and I'm surprized that I haven't hiked it till now....just NE of Middlebury...past Bristol....to Huntington VT.
Did this as a loop, which I recommend greatly....up the Burrows trail, a steady easy climb of just over 2 miles on a woodsy trail with no views till the summit....no mud, bugs or blowdown...well maintained...a fantastic, open rock summit with 360 views!! Returned via the long trail south of the summit to the Forrest City trail, which is much more rugged with ledges and great views all along...also a bit more mud in spots, but not like the ADK mud that we are blessed with....LOL This is a great half day hike, took me about 4 1/2 hrs with a long stay and lunch on the summit...one that I'll definitely do again....of note, the rocks are noticeably different...more shisty....hmmm....shinny mica like rock that is more slick to walk on and more care is needed on some sections to find good traction... ![]() David S. rockbiter ....chewing up the high peaks |

A super peak. Do it on a clear winter day and the views are even more spectacular.

Forest City trail sounds nice, I'll have to do that next time I go.

Nice Report! Camels Hump is a great hike! I like to get over to VT whenever I can. I hiked Camels Hump in the winter a couple years ago and we had the summit to ourselves for the whole time. I'm going back this summer to hike CH, Ethan Allen (VT 35) and maybe Burnt Rock Mtn. Rockbiter, if your looking for hikes in VT I can give you all sorts of ideas, and if your ever free on Monday's or Friday's let me know and we can join up for a hike. If I lived in Fair Haven I'd be up on Hubbardton Battlefield every night to watch the sunset!

Our flesh and bone tabernacle seems transparent as glass to the beauty about us, as if truly an inseparable part of it, thrilling with the air and trees, streams and rocks, in the waves of the sun, a part of all nature, neither old nor young, sick nor well, but immortal."
